“Down and Out Blues” was part of an interdisciplinary arts curriculum for 4th graders centered on The Great Migration. Through this learning module, students learned about this time in our American history, the connection to the Harlem Renaissance and Blues form. Students composing AAB poems and learned how to sing and improvise melodies in a student-composed blues ensemble. The culmination of this project was a performance at The House of Blues, Boston, opening for their “Schoolhouse Rock” Blues performances for fellow school-age youth.
